Weed Suppression

Weed management is a major issue in both conventional and conservation tillage systems. Conservation tillage systems provide benefits in that the residue cover has the potential of suppressing weeds by blocking sunlight, preventing seeds from getting to the soil surface and germinating. However, disturbance of the soil can expose the weed seeds and cause them to germinate. More detailed information on weed suppression can be found at the UGA Weed Science Website.
